Closing the ExpressVote Machines

CLOSING THE POLLS (Tuesday Night)

After it has been officially announced that the poll are closed, place a PEO at the end of the line to prevent anyone else from entering the voting line.

Every voter in line by 7:30 P.M. must be permitted to vote!

CLOSING THE ExpressVote Machines (IN A BIPARTISAN TEAM):

  • Supplies needed: machine key, check-off list, ExpressVote Log Sheet, scissors

  • Go to the ballot box and cut and remove RED seal, remove RED bag and cut and remove RED seal. Place used seal into bag. Record seal number and place ballot box seal in ballot box, place bag seal in the bag.

  • Remove master media sticks and in a bipartisan team go to the machines.

  • With the supplies needed to close, remove the BLUE seal from the left hand side of the machine and place on the report. Record the seal number

  • Go to the front of the machine and remove the BLUE seal from the front panel, place the BLUE seal on the report.

  • Use the Express Vote machine check off list and record the public count number for each machine.

  • Go to the access panel and put the machine in Official mode.

  • Close poll screen will appear, select close poll.

  • Input master media stick into the front access port , wait for the screen to change and select Close.

  • After the screen changes to the Closed terminal screen, and the screen reads “Remove the master media now”. Remove the media stick and go to the next machine in order.

  • Collect all the data from the machines, be sure numbers match the master media stick.

  • Go to the machine with the GREEN printer label, insert master media. If any exclamation marks are on the closing screen, go back to the machine with a matching serial number, reinsert master media and collect the data.

  • Go to the machine with the GREEN printer label, insert master media, confirm there are no exclamation marks, and print the closing reports. There should be 3 reports. Sign two reports and place them in the white VLM envelope. The last report unsigned will go on the door of the location.

  • Inside the left access panel, turn the power switch to off. Lock the panel, and re-seal it with a BLUE seal. Record the seal number on the report.

  • Stand in front on the Express Vote machine in push the GREEN button, and remove the Ballot bin container

  • Close the privacy lid of the machine, close and lock the front access panel, re-seal it with a BLUE seal. Record the seal number on the report. One places foot on the base of the machine on the left side while the other stands to the right of the machine.

  • Both lower the machine down. While the person on the right side firmly squeezes the YELLOW handle on the back.

  • One PEO stands in the back of the Machine and pushes GREEN Lever forward.

  • lower bottom of machine in and down, so that the base will be slightly tilted inward.

  • While the person on the right side firmly squeezes the YELLOW handle on the back the other team member places his hand on the middle handle, and lower kiosk down into the transport position.

  • Roll Express Vote Machines back where found Monday Night, and secure with YELLOW cord and lock.


Closing the Voter check-in Table

  • After the polls are closed go to epoll book, select the 3bar menu and choose logout, then choose close the election.

  • The lock the device screen will appear, input the passwords, lock the device.

  • Unplug ePollbook, and power off the tablet hold button at the top left hand side of the tablet (hold for 3 seconds). A prompt will say slide to power off on screen.

  • Close ePollbook at all check-in tables and put away, leaving the Provisional ePollbook on.

  • Power off the ePollbook printer by holding the power button for 3 seconds.

  • Power off Express Vote printer.

  • Unplug pegboard and remove from the table putting pegboard the BLUE grip.

  • Place the grip back into the Voto cart.


Election Night Close (End of Day)

  • Remove all signage from the location and place back into BLUE grip.

  • Place 6,11 and 4 list into white VLM envelope.

  • VLM will check off all supplies on the list as the items are put away.

  • Ballot bin containers have to be opened and the voted ballot cards removed, and placed into the ballot box.

  • Place all voted paper ballots provisional and regular, including curbside into ballot box and reseal with a new RED seal.

  • Place all unvoted paper ballots and unused ballot cards into the BLACK bags, close and place a new RED seal on it.

  • Lock and seal the grey Epoll book cases.

  • Take the gray epoll book cases, BLACK bags, clear plastic tote and ballot box to the VLM’s car and leave the location.

Closing the Provisional Table

  • Place all unused envelopes into supply grip.

  • White envelope, YELLOW Provisional book, green soiled envelope, go into the BLUE plastic folder.

  • Place the BLUE plastic folder, RED bag and pencil box with the phone and its changer, into the clear plastic tote.

  • All blank ballot cards go into the BLACK bag.

  • Cut and remove RED seal, and empty the ballot box, separate contents by precincts.

  • After the contents are separated count each pile.

  • Count all unused ballots, and complete the ballot accounting sheet (paper) and on the ePollbook.

  • Select the 3bar menu and choose logout, then choose close the election.

  • The lock the device screen will appear, input the passwords, lock the device.

  • After the passwords are imputed choose the ballot accounting option.

  • Input counted unused ballots.

  • Input used ballots.

  • Input public count numbers from the machine check off list.

  • After the Ballot Accounting report has been sent, and everything is put away and all reports have been generated go to the Provisional table and clock out.

  • The Voting Location Manager is responsible for returning Ballot Box, RED & BLACK Bags, and ePollbooks, clear plastic tote to their designated substation.
